A Resident Story of Love and Hope: Assisted Living to Memory Care

Memory CareMeet Hal & Mary Ann. At the time that they moved to Grand Living at Indian Creek, Hal was both an incredible husband and caregiver. When they came to Grand Living, we could feel the toll that came with taking on both roles. We were able to provide Hal with hope that things were going to get easier because we were now here to help both of them. Together they moved into our assisted living. We all knew deep in our hearts that it was only a matter of time before Mary Ann would benefit from our Memory Care program called Luminations®. We all understood the pain Hal was going through in making that decision. He felt as though he was giving up on her. While moving to our Assisted Living made it a bit easier for Hal, he was still being husband and caregiver. One day due to a medical emergency, Hal had no choice but to focus on himself. Now with the family’s blessing, we quickly made a home for Mary Ann in our Luminations neighborhood. Mary Ann instantly thrived and blossomed! She participates, she sings, and occasionally, you might even hear her talk – which she rarely did before! Once Hal’s health allowed him to visit Mary Ann again, he couldn’t believe how great she was doing! Now they have the best of both worlds. Mary Ann thrives in a place that allows her to live her best life living with dementia and Hal comes and goes as he pleases. He is able to be involved in the Grand Living community, even getting on our Royal Court for Valentines Day! Hal was 1 of 4 men chosen by their peers because they feel he most notably and consistently displays the kind, caring, loving, and accepting spirt that helps make Grand Living a great place to live. Hal has made so many friends and once again able to just be Mary Ann’s husband! We recently helped this amazing couple celebrate their 65th Wedding Anniversary and Hal just celebrated his 90th birthday! Happy Birthday Hal!
