I have an overload of positive comments about Grand Living at Tower Place. My parents chose this senior community after touring and considering several others in the Des Moines area. Sadly, my dad became ill and died before they were able to move in. My mom moved in a few months later and has thrived despite missing my dad terribly after 60+ years of marriage. It’s a gift to me that she’s living in a gorgeous community with such lovely residents, quality staff and fun entertainment, activities and amenities. At Grand Living, the positive and upbeat tone is set at the reception desk and everyone else you encounter is just as welcoming. The meals are far beyond the quality and variety that I imagined and the serving staff is beautifully trained and willing to do whatever they can to make each meal pleasant for everyone. The building, grounds and apartments are carefully maintained and the entire staff is fantastic, nurturing and very attentive to the needs of their residents. The experience has been top-notch for my mom, and therefore for me. I feel welcomed every time I visit and appreciate the extra effort workers make toward families and friends of residents. Grand Living at Tower Place is a godsend. I could go on and on.

Grand Living has been a life-changer for my dad and for me! Before moving there, he was in another independent living facility that paled in comparison. Since I was Dad’s primary caregiver I was responsible for getting him to all appointments and errands. With the seven day a week chauffeur service, I can attend his most important appointments while relying on their transportation for others. He absolutely loves the food, both the quality and generous portions. So far it seems the Prime Rib might be his favorite. All of the residents have been very welcoming since his arrival in February. He had enjoyed getting to know so many fascinating people with varied backgrounds. The staff has all been so helpful and friendly. Dad loves the servers and has been very pleased with the quality of housekeeping. He is impressed with the maintenance staff and their attention to details. There are tons of great activities in and out of the building. He is looking forward to this Saturday when one of his great grandchildren will be at Grand Living for family fun day. I highly recommend!!! My dad feels safe with all the security measures and he is living his best life!

If you are looking for a place for you or your family this is it. My father and mother inlaw moved in a few months ago. Grand Living has rooms you can rent to visit family. My wife and I just spent the weekend there and it is a great place to call home. The staff is the best. They know everyone’s name and are sweet and kind. The food is great. The other residents are kind and welcoming. I am only 58 but my wife and I both said it felt like a resort and we could live there! We can’t wait to return. God bless the owners for all you have done to make this world a better place.

Jerry Talerico

Dining Room Manager

Jerry’s passion for the food service industry began at an early age, literally growing up in his father’s fine dining supper club, Vic’s Tally Ho, in Des Moines, Iowa.

After honing his “back of the house” restaurant skills, he decided to pursue this vocation, majoring in Hotel and Restaurant Management, and graduating from Denver University. He met his life partner while working in the restaurant business and they moved to the East Coast where Jerry continued his study of food and food service at the Culinary Institute of America. He worked on the east coast for the next six years and was persuaded to return to Iowa to be closer to family.

His dream of owning his own restaurant was finally realized when he opened Sam & Gabe’s Italian Bistro, lauded as one of the top five restaurants in the city by The Des Moines Register’s food critic. After 20 years he sold the restaurant in order to pursue other personal options.

He is now embracing his new endeavor, working with Grand Living at Tower Place as the Director of Fine Dining and welcoming new friends living their golden years…
