Finding FIRST CLASS HAPPINESS® Through Love This February

Honoring Every Life Story at Grand Living

At Grand Living, we believe that every life tells a story, a unique and intricate tapestry woven with experiences, joys, and cherished moments. We understand that our residents aren’t just residents; they are individuals with rich histories, vibrant personalities, and a lifetime of stories waiting to be shared. It’s this deep respect for individuality and the profound value we place on personal history that truly defines the Grand Living experience. We strive to create an environment where these stories are not only remembered but celebrated, where the past is honored, and where the present is filled with joy and connection. Recently, we witnessed a beautiful example of this at our Grand Living at Indian Creek community, a moment that perfectly encapsulates the heart of what we do.

A Wedding Dress Revisited After 50 Years

Eloise seeing her wedding dress for the first time in almost 50 years!

Eloise, one of our beloved residents at Grand Living at Indian Creek, experienced a truly remarkable day, a journey back in time that brought smiles, laughter, and perhaps a few happy tears. After 50 years, her wedding dress, a treasured relic of a momentous occasion, was brought out for a special reveal. Imagine the emotions that must have flooded back as she gazed upon the gown, a tangible representation of a love story that has spanned decades. The air was thick with anticipation, a shared sense of excitement rippling through the room as they all prepared to witness this special moment. It was more than just a dress; it was a portal to the past, a reminder of young love, hopes, and dreams.

A Love Story That Began on the Dance Floor

Eloise shared a glimpse into her early life with her husband, Bob. Their love story began on the dance floor, where their shared passion for dance, especially the jitterbug, ignited a spark. Eloise recalled knowing Bob was “the one” after he took her to Armar, a sophisticated dance hall that hosted big bands. She described him as handsome and a fantastic dancer. She reminisced about their time in Ames, their early days in a one-bedroom apartment while both were students, and the special ritual they shared throughout their marriage: singing songs like “I Love You a Bushel and a Peck” together every evening. Though they didn’t have children, their two beloved dogs, Sparrow and Nicholas (who knew 14 tricks and even “prayed” each night!), held a special place in their hearts. Eloise cherishes the memory of her wedding day, especially being surrounded by over 200 loved ones and sharing hugs with each of them.

The Thoughtful Efforts of the Grand Living Team

Our dedicated Director of FACETS® (Activities), Larinda Jungjohann, played a crucial role in making this day so memorable for Eloise. Going above and beyond, as our team so often does, Larinda even tried on the dress herself, much to the amusement and delight of everyone present. A slight fit issue only added to the charm and lightheartedness of the moment, creating a shared laugh and a deeper connection between Eloise and Larinda. Larinda described her excitement at being part of the reveal, emphasizing the honor it was to share such a special moment with someone she cherishes. She and the FACETS® Assistant, Alex, carefully planned the presentation, aiming for an intimate and meaningful experience for Eloise. “It was a truly magical and precious moment,” Larinda shared. This simple act of empathy and willingness to participate in Eloise’s joy speaks volumes about the Grand Living philosophy. It’s not just about providing care; it’s about creating genuine connections and fostering a sense of family.

A Nostalgic Journey Back in Time

As Eloise beheld her wedding dress, her face lit up with a radiant smile. It was clear that the memories were vivid, the love still strong. A bittersweet wave washed over her, the joy of the memories tinged with the ache of Bob’s absence. She recalled how beautiful the dress made her feel and how the whole night unfolded before her mind’s eye. Seeing Larinda in the dress brought her absolute delight, and she even insisted on creating a complete look with a beautiful bouquet.

To complete the nostalgic picture, Eloise requested a flower bouquet, a perfect finishing touch that transported her back to that special day 50 years ago. She lingered with the dress for a while, quietly soaking in the moment, surrounded by the love and support of her Grand Living family. It was a beautiful and touching scene, a testament to the power of memory and the importance of cherishing these precious moments. Eloise finds joy in giving and caring for others, a testament to her generous spirit.

The Power of Listening and Genuine Care

At Grand Living, we understand that it’s often the small things, the seemingly insignificant gestures, that create the most lasting impact. It’s about taking the time to listen, to learn, and to truly understand the unique stories of our residents. Larinda expressed her belief in the power of connection, emphasizing the importance of truly hearing the heart behind the words and honoring each resident’s unique experience. She strives to build genuine relationships, actively listening and showing genuine interest in their lives. “It’s the people, the love, the connections, the friendships—everything,” Larinda shared about her work at Grand Living. “This building, and everyone within it, has captured my whole heart.” She highlighted the strong sense of family and the dedication to creating fulfilling lives for the residents. “We are family here,” Larinda emphasized. “We’re a leadership team who puts out the best for our residents and care so deeply about them, we would give everything we have to make sure that they are happy.” It’s about recognizing that each individual has a rich tapestry of experiences that have shaped them into the person they are today. And it’s about creating opportunities for those memories to be revisited, celebrated, and shared.
