Chef Austina is a native of Freetown, Sierra Leone in West Africa. She grew up as the middle child in a family of “foodies” but did not think the kitchen was for her. Her family moved to the United States in 1998 and Austina decided to take a cake decorating class at Kirkwood Community College. Once she entered the kitchen, she was hooked. Chef Austina’s culinary experience includes working in hotels, restaurants, business and educational settings. Chef loves explaining the Grand Living Culinary Program to everyone she meets because, as she puts it, “It is a unique concept in senior dining. Our residents have worked hard their whole lives. It is their time to relax and let us take care of them. The best way to say ‘thank you’ is by providing good, home-cooked meals that nourish them.” Her ability to personalize and cater to individual residents with specific needs goes above and beyond and Grand Living at Bridgewater is thrilled to have her as part of our family.
“It is always more than JUST food! Food creates memories that transcends barriers and as culinarians, we always want those memories to be positive. We strive to present the best each day.”
