AMY SHINNEMAN, RN, BSN

Director of Health and Wellness

A Midwest native, Amy brings a varied working healthcare background with her as the Director of Health and Wellness at Grand Living at Indian Creek. Amy has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, and a minor in Psychology. She has 19 years of experience in a variety of positions, including orthopaedic-neurology staff nurse, medical-surgical nurse, pediatrics, post-anesthesia recovery room nurse, adjunct faculty nursing instructor for Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, and executive director of a home health agency. Over these years Amy has obtained many certifications including, BLS, PALS, ACLS, and obtained her board-certification for Perianesthesia Nursing (CPAN). Throughout her career, she has continually taken pride in her passion to assist her patients and families/loved ones in achieving their optimal level of wholistic health and wellness — physically, mentally and psychosocially.

In her spare time Amy enjoys the out-of-doors, including gardening, hiking, walks, fishing and frog hunting. She also enjoys volunteering at her church and spending time with her friends and family, especially her two daughters, Emmalee and Alaina.

Part of Grand Living’s vision, ”…to be recognized for embracing the uniqueness of each individual we serve,” reminds Amy of one of her favorite quotes: “In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.”  Part of my passion about being a nurse, is connecting with people and their life journey, whether by lending an ear or making a memorable moment with them in their story.
